STEP 1: COUNT IT OUT
Using an 8-count track of some sort can be very useful when remembering counts especially when you us the same one you do in practice. Go through your routine from beginning to end and be sure to make your motions sharp. Link of the 8 count track we use in class.
STEP 2: WORD ASSOCIATION
Try having a play with saying your routine for example when doing a stunt e.g.; Lib – Dip 1, Lib 3, Hold 5,6,7,8 Dip 1, Cradle 3, Catch 5, Out 7, Clean 8! This technique can be useful throughout your whole routine and is a great way to ensure you and your group are doing the correct things on the right counts.
STEP 3: “MOTIONS IN THE MIRROR”
As silly as this may sound it really does work! If you practice in front of a mirror all of your faces and motions you will become much better at them. Do it in the privacy of your own room or even put on a performance for your parents. But doing your routine in front of a mirror will help you incredibly!
Be sure to remember that practice makes perfect and you can only get better if you put in the work. It’s not just what you do inside the gym but it’s also what you do outside the gym that makes you a better athlete.
Thanks for tuning in.
